SAFETY

The different safety systems

The different safety systems to prevent falls can be divided into 2 large categories:
- the active safety systems where the level of safety on the course is dependent on the behavior of the participants (eg. the principle of self-belaying where users are responsible for their own safety.)
- the passive safety systems where the level of safety is independent of the behaviour of the participants. They divide themselves into 2 big families:
  • The interlocking lanyards or 'smart belay'
  • Continuous belay system
Attention: Interlocking lanyards ('smart belay') are not all considered to be passive systems. For more information, please contact us.

Thanks to our constant technological watch, ARBRE ET AVENTURE can advise you on all the safety systems which are available on the market. Moreover, in order to increase protection from falls, ARBRE ET AVENTURE, who is representative of the manufacturer BORNACK, propose a passive safety system called 'SSB lanyards' for the safety of its installations.

The principle of the SSB lanyards is the following:
The users are protected from falling by an SSB system made up of a double lanyard equipped at each end with an SSB carabiner. One of the two carabiners is permanently locked. Locking one carabiner leads to unlocking the other one and vice-versa.
In this way it is absolutely impossible to have both carabiners unclipped from the safety system simultaneously.

Mechanical systems installed on the safety wire (called TWEEZLE) allow you to control the locking of these SSB carabiners. They act like a key which lets you control the spot where the users attach themselves very precisely. Thus it is impossible to detach oneself from the safety system

When the user wants to move his safety connection from one place to another, the unlocked carabiner is connected to the next attachment point equipped with a TWEEZLE key. Putting the carabiner into the TWEEZLE causes it to lock while at the same time unlocking the second carabiner which is then free to be moved as well..

Sometimes different shaped TWEEZLEs are necessary in order to conserve the whole range of a traditional course (ascensions, zip lines, tarzan jumps......)

The advantages for the users are the following:

  • A system which is easy to use, even for children.
  • At least one of the two carabiners of the SSB safety system is permanently locked onto the safety system.
  • The users follow the established safety system indicated by a TWEEZLE.
  • It is impossible to detach oneself from the safety system without using the Park Operator's special tool.

The advantages for the Park Operators are the following:

  • The system is simple to use for the participants and thus helps the park flow
  • The supervision of the Park is easier.
  • The number of operators can be reduced compared to a 'classic system', while at the same time improving the level of safety and complying with the requirements of the European relevant standard EN 15 567-2 (High rope courses - operation requirements).
  • Less stress for the users who can therefore enjoy themselves more and fully appreciate this unusual nature experience.  Customer satisfaction increases.
  • The users follow the safety systems which are identified by a TWEEZLE, and the the risk of connecting oneself to the wrong cable (e.g : brace, ...) is completely eliminated.
  • Using SSB lanyards keeps people involved (they handle the carabiners themselves) which encourages the educational aspect of the sport.

This easy to use system allows you to guarantee the absolute safety of the Park.  It gets rid of all the disadvantages of the other existing safety systems on the market while at the same time integrating in just one product all the advantages of those existing systems.
